Mickey Harley knows as well as anyone that there’s nothing easy about running a cannabis business. At the same time, the CEO of The Greenrose Holding Company says marijuana in the U.S. is the biggest opportunity he’s ever seen. As he tells Tony Greer, founder of TG Macro and editor of The Morning Navigator, it’s a cash-generating machine with a lot of growth in front of it. But there are many challenges when it comes to access to capital, at an industry as well as a company-specific level. “We’re in a ‘nobody cares’ environment right now,” is Harley’s rather blunt assessment. The key long-term catalyst is legalization at the federal level, a move that would open up access to full banking and financing services. Harley is hopeful the Senate will soon take up a bill passed by the House of Representatives to “deschedule” marijuana. New legislation – if and when it comes – will pave the way for cannabis stocks to up-list from over-the-counter status to venues such as the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq.
