The consumer price index was up 8.6% year over year in May, exceeding forecasts and reaching another new 40-year high. Equity index futures slid on the news, as investors digest the reality that inflation has not peaked and the Federal Reserve has all the data it needs to support its hawkish monetary tightening plan. David Rosenberg, the founder and president of Rosenberg Research, joins Real Vision’s Maggie Lake to assess the data and put it into a broader economic context. David and Maggie will also talk about the durability of the Federal Reserve’s hawkish pose when its own Beige Book used the word “recession” an astounding 11 times in its latest iteration. And is the European Central Bank just playing catch-up at this point? There’s all that and more on today’s Real Vision Live.
