Lawmakers have reached an agreement to extend the debt ceiling through early December, which allows the debt limit to increase by $480 billion. With equities’ high volatility this week continuing to roil markets, economists are warning that the U.S. defaulting on its debt would lead to a recession and violent swings in financial markets. Natural gas and oil also are reaching astronomical levels, keeping investors on edge about the supply bottlenecks affecting Europe and the U.S. in the colder months to come. Steven Van Metre, president of Steven Van Metre Financial, joins the Daily Briefing to address the macro factors fueling this week’s market dynamics. Interviewed by Ash Bennington.
