Pro Macro: In Focus – Seeds of Change

Published on: January 17th, 2023

US Exceptionalism has dominated the investment landscape since the GFC lows. The tide appears to have turned as capital returns home or goes in search of value outside of the US. If this persists, it will have implications for asset allocation within equities with a reflexive impact on currencies. A thesis follows.

@milton this is has been a fairly regular complaint for a long time now. The delay in trade ideas means J & R's opening positions and reported returns are often unachievable for everyone else. Trying to get trade ideas out as quickly as possible would be helpful.

Also seems to be a typo in the recommendations end box, trade is EWP/SPY not EWW/SPY?

It is meant to be EWP. The Spanish stock market is very "cheap", in that it has underperformed for a long time.

How does one make these types of trades where it is a buy/sell of two different ETFs? Action: Buy EWP (iShares MSCI Spain ETF) sell SPY at 0.067, stop below 0.054.

Thank you Luis H. If I may, I have one more question. What platform lets you chart two symbols into a ratio? One could do it manually, but it seems Julian has this auto-generated through his charting program (which I believe is his Bloomberg). But for those of us using trading view, is there a way to do ratios like this?

You buy the EWP ETF normally and sell an equivalent amount ( in $terms) of SPY when the ratio between the quotes of the two are aprox 0.067 (i.e. now). For that you have to have an account that lets you short SPY. You exit the trade if the ratio goes againt you ( 0.054 or lower). Since it is a long term trade you increase the position incrementally if it goes in your favor ( I.e. the ratio increases. Julian expects that the rate can go to 0.15.
