Who is…
- Dr El-Erian was born in New York City on August 19, 1958 to Egyptian parents. Shortly after his birth, the family moved back to Egypt, where he spent much of his childhood. He studied at both Cambridge and Oxford.
- In 1983 he settled in the US, taking a position at the International Monetary Fund in Washington – where he rose to become deputy director.
- He spent fourteen years of his career at PIMCO, first joining in 1999 as head of emerging markets portfolio management, then re-joining the firm from 2007-2014 as CEO/co-CIO. In 2012 he became Chair of President Obama’s Global Development Council until 2017.
- Dr. El-Erian has published widely on international economic and finance topics. He is one of the world’s most influential economic thinkers and the New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestselling author.
